A Taste of France in Malaysia: Colmar Tropicale 

Colmar Tropicale feels like you’ve been transported to a little piece of France, right here in Malaysia. Nestled 2,600 feet up in the highlands, this French-style village offers cool, fresh air, making it a perfect escape from the usual heat.



The story behind Colmar Tropicale is an interesting one. Back in 1994, Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, visited the medieval town of Colmar in France. 

Captivated by its beauty, he suggested the idea of creating something similar in Malaysia to Vincent Tan, the tycoon behind the Berjaya Group. After two years of careful construction, the French Village opened its doors in 2000.



As soon as you arrive here, it feels like stepping into a fairytale. The rows of castle-like buildings, vibrant tiled walls, and quaint shops create a magical setting. Every detail, from the beautifully carved shop signs to the classic French-style clocks, adds to the charm.

These entrance fees include access to the Japanese Village, Botanical Garden, and Rabbit Park.

The Village Square is the lively heart of Colmar Tropicale, with its bright colours, fountains, street performances, and plenty of photo-worthy spots that give off a European town vibe. 



It’s a great place to take a chill stroll, grab a coffee, or enjoy a pastry, making it a buzzing hub for visitors to relax and explore.

If you want a killer view of the whole area, the Lookout Point Tower is the spot you absolutely have to check out!



The tower is only three stories high, but from the top, you’ll get a view of the colourful buildings in front and the lush greenery behind, totally worth the climb!

Starbuck and 7-Eleven



In Colmar Tropicale, you can find a couple of familiar spots where visitors can relax and grab a quick bite or drink. For those who enjoy a good coffee, there's a Starbucks located within the French-inspired village. Be it for a quick caffeine fix or a place to take a break, it's a great spot.

If you’re in Colmar Tropicale and need something quick, there’s a 7-Eleven open from 7 am to 11 pm. It’s a great place to pick up snacks, drinks, or anything you might have forgotten. Super convenient and adds a little bit of comfort while you enjoy the European vibes.


Nearby Highlights: 

i) Japanese Village 


If you’ve got some extra time, make sure to check out the Japanese Village, which is just a short drive away. You can either drive yourself or hop on a free shuttle at the French Village. 

The road there is a bit winding, so the shuttle is the more comfortable choice. In about 15 minutes, you’ll arrive at a serene green haven nestled on the hillside.



The Japanese Village offers a peaceful escape surrounded by lush greenery, designed with Japanese aesthetics in mind. The highlight is its use of Malaysia’s natural rainforests, blending them with Japanese zen elements to create a truly tranquil atmosphere. 



As you walk along pathways lined with fine gravel, you’ll pass over large stones creating the sound of a gentle waterfall, while koi fish swim happily in the streams.

It’s best to explore on foot, and along the way, you’ll encounter a traditional tea house, a spot to rent Japanese attire for photos, a spa, Japanese dining, and quaint shops selling souvenirs. The whole experience is a nice mix of relaxing and cultural activities, making it a peaceful and unique getaway​.

ii) Interact with Animals at the Rabbit Park

Perfect for families with kids, the Rabbit Park is a must-visit. Children can feed, pet, and play with these fluffy animals in a safe environment.



You can get tickets for the park when you buy your entrance pass to the French Village and Japanese Village. The guinea pigs, rabbits, and sheep are all friendly, but be careful with the guinea pigs as they might bite!

The rabbits and sheep are super chill and you can get close to them, take pics, or even give them a little cuddle.

iii) Dinosaur Park



The Dinosaur Park at Colmar Tropicale is a cool spot for dinosaur lovers. The park has lifelike dinosaurs that move and roar, so it really feels like you’re in the past.

Kids can dig for fossils at the Dino Dig Zone, and the whole family can enjoy a walk through the Jurassic-style forest. It's a great family spot for both learning and adventure.

If you're up for something fun, try horse riding here. You can ride through some really nice, scenic spots. It’s super chill, even if you're a beginner!

You can enjoy delicious French pastries, Colmar-style pizza, roasted chicken, ice cream, and even special cocktails.



Imagine sitting at an outdoor café, sipping coffee, and people-watching. It feels just like being on a street in France. 



If you're looking for a full course meal, head over to La Cigogne restaurant. They have a juicy, tender steak drizzled with a special sauce that tastes amazing. You also have to try their crêpes, made with some booze and ice cream.



The best part is how they make it. The chef will bring a portable stove to your table and flambé the crêpes right in front of you. It’s really cool to watch as they flip the crêpes. 

Romantic Escapades and Family Fun

While enjoying your French meal, it gets even better with some live music in the background. A band from Mauritius performs regularly in the village square and also serenades diners with beautiful French and English love songs. 



With the soft sounds of guitar and ukulele, the singer’s voice flows like gentle waves, making it an unforgettable experience. On top of that, there are street performances with French artists showing off acrobatics and unicycle tricks.

By Flight:Fly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). From the airport, a taxi or Grab ride to Berjaya Hills takes approximately one hour and costs RM 150 (SGD ~43).


By Bus:Singapore to Kuala Lumpur – Coaches (SGD 25–60) by KKKL Express, Starmart Express, Transtar Express, Grassland Express, Aeroline, and others.
